An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Respiratory Technician to join our busy team working in the pulmonary function laboratory, situated within the Department of Respiratory Medicine at the Kent and Sussex Hospital, part of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
We undertake a range of clinical physiological tests including routine pulmonary function tests (spirometry, gas transfer and body plethysmography, Muscle strength testing), Oxygen assessments, and 6 Minute walk tests. It is essential for the successful applicant to have had previous experience in Lung Function testing and be competent to accurately perform and report on all Respiratory investigations undertaken.
You will be a highly self-motivated team member who is organised, flexible and reliable. You must be able to demonstrate a high standard of proficiency in Respiratory investigations and be enthusiastic to both teach and learn within the field. You will hold a BTEC / HNC MPPM / BSc in clinical physiology with ARTP part 1 and 2. or equivalent experience and training. RCCP registration is desirable or you should be in a position to apply for registration.
As a newly qualified technician at Band 6, you would be supervised by the Chief Physiologist at Maidstone hospital to develop your skills and experience. The Lung Function Department at Pontefract General Infirmary is busy, friendly
and enthusiastic and within seven months will move to a new department within a
PFI build.
You will perform a comprehensive range of lung function investigations and skin
allergy testing. Full involvement in the investigation and treatment of sleep
related breathing disorders will also be required therefore some evening work
may be required.
You will also be expected to play an active role in the education and training
of nursing, physiotherapy and junior medical staff. Personal initiative, the
ability to work both independently and as part of a team and commitment to
providing a high quality service are all essential.
You should have:-
BTEC / HNC MPPM / BSc in clinical physiology or equivalent experience and
training. ARTP part 1 and / or 2 is desirable. RCCP registration or be in a
position to apply for registration. Experience of performing a broad range lung
function investigations. Experience performing sleep studies / CPAP is desirable
but not essential, as training will be given where necessary. Computer skills
including all windows applications are an advantage.

As a Sleep Technologist/Polysomnographer, you will join our Consultant-led Sleep team in the UK. Working within our multi-disciplinary team, you will take a lead role in providing technical aspects of the service, performing and reporting multi-channel respiratory sleep studies and polysomnography. There is also a strong clinical role, including implementing CPAP treatment for those with obstructive sleep apnoea and providing yearly treatment checks. If your experience allows, you will provide initial assessment of patients referred with suspected sleep apnoea and/or ventilatory failure. In addition, you will support our respiratory failure and home non-invasive ventilation services, making for broad diversity of practice and personal career development. Additional training will be given to a suitable appointee, making this an excellent opportunity.
You should have a degree in clinical physiology (or equivalent), significant experience as a sleep practitioner and an RSPGT qualification.
The Respiratory department in Portsmouth is rapidly expanding and includes nine full-time consultant staff, six clinical nurse specialists and a Respiratory Physiotherapist specialist. The Sleep service is relatively new and has a full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist and support from a Respiratory Physiologist. The location provides immediate access to the South Coast with good links to London and Europe.

Specialist Physiological Measurement Technologist

The Lane Fox Unit is a national referral centre for the management of chronic respiratory failure resulting from neuromuscular, chest wall and lung disease. The unit is also is a weaning centre for patients who remain ventilator-dependent following critical illness. The unit also supports over 650 ventilator patients at home and in the community.
The unit uses a wide range of diagnostic tests, such as carbon dioxide monitoring and phrenic nerve stimulation, respitrace and pulse oximetry to assess the need for support of breathing. The unit has pioneered a unique service to 'wean' ICU patients from tracheostomy ventilation and is accepting transfers from around London and the whole of the south of England.
You will manage and co-ordinate the development of the physiological measurement service for these patients and will also be the lead specialist in extending the service to the community and to remote clinics.
We are looking for someone with significant specialist experience in relevant fields of measurements, e.g. EEG, sleep or respiratory function. You must have scientific knowledge acquired through formal training to degree or equivalent level, plus knowledge of specialist and advanced procedures.

Respiratory Medicine in Nottingham has recently been awarded £6million to deliver a step change in our translational research capacity. A new Lung Function department has been built with the provision of equipment and staff to create an integrated clinical and research facility. You will support the Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit and these posts provide an exciting opportunity to be involved with the development of our department.
We have two posts available (band 5/6 and a band 7) and we are seeking to recruit two enthusiastic and motivated respiratory physiologists to join our friendly, professional and busy team; performing a wide range of routine and complex diagnostic lung function tests as well as supporting the established sleep services based at the City hospital campus.
Are you a newly qualified respiratory physiologist looking to develop a solid foundation within the profession, or do you already possess atleast two years experience as a qualified physiologist working in respiratory physiology and are looking to expand into a more specialist role? Then we want to hear from you.
You should have experience of full lung function testing including body plethysmography, flight assessments and capillary blood gas analysis. Experience in the delivery of CPAP and NIV services and assisting with departmental training would be advantageous for applicants wishing to be considered for the band 6 position.
You should hold a BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent qualification). It is also desirable to have a relevant professional qualification (ARTP Part 1/Part 2). You should be registered with RCCP (or working towards this).
We are also looking to recruit a band 7 physiologist who would have a major role in the training and development of junior staff as well as a significant clinical input into the complex diagnostic respiratory and sleep services performed at this hospital. Do you already have significant experience at the specialist band 6 level and are looking to develop your career further within respiratory physiology then this may be the role for you. You should hold a BSc in Clinical Physiology including ARTP parts 1 and 2 (or equivalent qualifications) and should also be registered with RCCP.

You will play an active role working in this busy prestigious department and be involved in performing a wide range of physiological/clinical tests, including full LFT’s with body plethysmography, cardiopulmonary exercise tests, provocation tests, hypoxic inhalation tests, hyperventilation tests, pulmonary blood flow studies, sleep studies, oesophageal tests and many other tests.
You will also be expected to participate in research projects taking place within the new Biomedical Research Unit/Advanced Lung Disease Research Unit; special lung function tests will be performed in this new high profile unit and the building work should be completed by January 2010.
The successful candidate will be required to help supervise and support more Junior Clinical Physiologists and work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. It is essential that you are self motivated and have good communication skills.
You should hold a BSc degree in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent qualification). It is also desirable to have a relevant professional qualification (ARTP Part 1/Part 2). You should be registered with RCCP or at least eligible for registration.

Senior Clinical Respiratory Physiologist (Sleep)

The Sleep Service is based within the Respiratory Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The unit provides a wide range of assessments ranging from home oximetry to full polysomnography, CPAP and BiPAP therapy. Sleep studies are performed in our dedicated four bedroom sleep unit and on the Respiratory ward using a range of sleep recording systems (Embla, Visilab, Embletta, Massimo). We currently perform over 800 sleep studies per annum and maintain a support service for more than 100 children at home on long-term non-invasive ventilatory support. We aim to expand the service to a capacity in excess of 1400 sleep studies per annum.
We are seeking two (1 WTE and 0.5 WTE) experienced, enthusiastic and reliable Clinical Respiratory Physiologists to join our Sleep Service team. The candidates should have good interpersonal skills, need to be computer literate, should enjoy working with children and be sensitive the needs of our patients and their families. The successful full time applicant would be expected to work on a rota of two nights per week (setting-up and supervising sleep studies in infants and children) and one and a half days a week participating in the analysis, interpretation and reporting of sleep studies. The 0.5 WTE post will work an average of 1 night shift and 1 day per week. You will be involved in the support of children on long-term domiciliary ventilatory support (CPAP & BiPAP). There will be opportunities to be actively involved in the ongoing research taking place in the unit.
The sleep team will consist of a Principal Clinical Physiologist, 3.5 WTE Senior Clinical Physiologists, 3.5 WTE Healthcare Science Support Workers a Consultant Clinical Scientist with four Respiratory Consultants and Clinical Sleep Fellow. We are looking to appoint friendly, outgoing individuals to join our busy team to provide assistance for the Sleep Study service. You should have experience as a Clinical Physiologist and will have completed the BTEC HNC in MPPM or have a relevant science degree or equivalent experience. RCCP registration is desirable but not essential. Experience in respiratory sleep studies and in the assessment and treatment of sleep apnoea are essential, however this does not necessarily have to be in children as comprehensive in house training will be available to the successful applicant.

This is an opportunity for a Clinical Physiologist to join our friendly and professional team of Respiratory Physiologists. The Respiratory Laboratory provides a wide range of respiratory investigations and assessments.
You will have experience in performing a wide range of investigations such as spirometry, lung volumes, gas transfer, body plethysmography, challenge tests and exercise tests. A major aspect of the job will be involvement in oxygen assessment clinics both in hospital and the community. Experience in this area will be welcome but not essential and training will be provided if necessary. The Trust actively promotes personal development and there will be the opportunity to develop new and existing skills.
You should possess a Clinical Physiology Degree or equivalent qualification/experience and hold RCCP registration.
