The text search engine allows queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords AND, OR, and NOT, and grouped with parentheses. For example:

- finds documents containing ' respiratory ' or ' retrieval'
- respiratory or physiology
- same as above
- respiratory and physiology
- finds documents containing both ' respiratory ' and ' retrieval'
- respiratory not physiology
- finds documents containing ' respiratory ' but not ' retrieval'
- (respiratory not physiology) and ARTP
- finds documents containing ' ARTP ', plus ' respiratory ' but not ' retrieval'
